Johann Schimrack • Zacharias Zarevutius • Giovanni Gabrieli

Renewed world premiere of Johann Schimrack’s works after 300 years

Baroque mastery didn’t only happen in Venice. Exceptional musical works were created in 17th-century Spišské Podhradie as well. Johann Schimrack, Zacharias Zarevutius, and their contemporaries shaped a distinctive voice of early baroque far from the known cultural centers. They left us music of extraordinary depth and compositional sophistication.

This June, their rediscovered works will be performed by Le nuove musiche and internationally acclaimed conductor Jörn Hinnerk Andresen. Alongside Šimrák’s motets and Zarevúcky’s sacred songs, we’ll present Giovanni Gabrieli’s magnificent Symphoniae sacrae in a dialogue that proves baroque Spiš matched the greatest European centers in quality.
